In order to promote domestically produced goods and reduce dependence on imported goods, especially the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, the Laos Government has adopted many incentives to encourage export goods, promote self-reliance and increase the production of local speciality.

Farming and Breeding training courses to promote domestic production have been organized regularly.

Measures that Laos has promoted in recent years to encourage domestic production of goods are to reduce taxes for SMEs; Organize training courses for farmers on farming, one product per district (ODOP) model and domestic commodity fairs. Other activities are also organized at exhibitions or fairs such as art exhibitions, seminars with many topics to disseminate knowledge and exchange strategic plans of the Lao National Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Access to approach capital, market and e-commerce (E-commerce), seminar on young people interested in doing business, career skills that employers need, adjusting strategy business affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, the agricultural sector. Organizing a dialogue forum on the demand of people using Lao products, encouraging Lao people to travel to Laos.

Made in Lao goods are mostly made from natural materials, helping to protect the environment.

Ms. Chanthachon Vongxay, Vice Chairman of Laos National Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently said, with the theme “Laos tourism to Laos, using Lao products”, Laos Domestic Goods Expo 2020 that ended in early this year has achieved many positive results. In the early days of 2021, the Made in Lao stalls at market fair always attracted many visitors to visit and buy goods. The organizers have mobilized 121 companies to exhibit 220 booths with a total value of products on display up to more than 13 billion Lao kip. The products on display this time are very diverse, including handmade textiles, jewelry, carved wood products, furniture, agricultural products, industry, beverages, food, along with many images of turmeric. art, culture … The organization of this exhibition fair is to propagate and encourage Lao products and promote production components, propagandize “Laos tourism Laos” to help restore the Laos economy that was heavily affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, at the same time it was also the 45th anniversary of the Lao National Day and the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of President Cayson Phomvihan.

Compared to every year, the scale of fairs such as the Laos Domestic Goods Expo, the Furniture Exhibition or the ODOP Fair has had a minimum number of visitors due to the influence of Covid-19. However, through these activities, they have contributed to promote the development of Laos’ domestic goods. In addition, through the organization of domestic goods exhibitions or festivals, the buying consciousness of customers is also toward domestic products, especially the protection of the environment due to Laos domestic products that are made of natural ingredients.

Previously, at the March 2020 regular meeting, the Lao Government established a Specialized Committee to deal with the economic impacts and impacts caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, in order to increase domestic production, especially essential consumer goods, as imports from neighbor countries are restricted by the Covid-19 epidemic.

Prime Minister of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, emphasized that promoting self-reliance is one of the good traditions of the Laotian people, the Lao government called up on Laos ministries, branches and people to turn the current difficulties into opportunities, compete to increase the production of domestically produced goods in order to offset previous imported goods.
